Hey Friends,

Can we just call this issue “fashionably late”? I know I’m a bit tardy on delivering this, but hey, at least it worked out before the end of 2021! 😅

It’s been a 🍌 🍌 🍌 s year, and honestly, I’m pretty stoked for what 2022 has to offer. On that note, I’ve recently taken on some additional work / life obligations, and I’m rethinking what this newsletter really is …

What I know:

I know that I love writing it, I know that I love having a direct line to friends, family and people I respect — and I know that this will continue in some permutation in the future.

What I don’t know:

What shape this will take, how often I’ll publish it, etc.

I’m taking a bit of a step back just to marinate in life for a bit … who knows? This may resume as a quarterly newsletter, I’m not really sure at this point … Maybe we’ll just go ahead and pencil that in, and if I send it any earlier — gravy! I only want to continue sending this out of a pure place of love, honesty and creativity — vs sending it out of some “self-imposed obligation”. (Oh and PS: if this newsletter is no longer relevant to you or doesn't bring you joy, please unsubscribe! I’ll never take offense, scouts honor. 🖖 Think of it as a “Marie Kondo / Email” kinda situation).

Regardless of the tempo and tenor of this humble newsletter, I do want to say that I genuinely hope that your holiday time hasn’t been too stressful, and that your 2022 year is bar-none the best of your life.

Let’s do this. 💪

🎧 On Repeat

Halsey was on my radar before, but once I heard she partnered with Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for her new album — it was an instant download for me. We’re talkin’ dark dirges and fuzzed out beats that feel a wee bit sinister and yet danceable at the same time. Reznor & Atticus bring an effortless animal energy, while Halsey pulls zero punches. There’s some tasty Prodigy-ish drumbeat licks and some meaty Dead Weather moods served up in generous portions. It’s not all bleak though, there’s a shimmer of honesty and confession here. To coin Soundgarden, this is your jam if you prefer your pop to have:

“a cleaner love … with a dirty feel …”

🖤

*Not for the easily offended (language, artistic interpretations of spiritual mores, etc).

Remi Wolf makes the Bay Area proud by throwing spunky, eclectic, punchy hip-hop parties into the cul-de-sac bbq of your brain. I imagine this might be what it sounds like if Miley Cyrus and M.I.A. locked themselves away in a pool studio with a fully-stocked bar (pool studio? Is that even a thing? If not, it should be …)

Playful, catchy, sun-soaked … the production is top-flight too: smart, layered, sharp-as diamond-crusted-nails (this is a good one to listen to with a nice pair of headphones). If you’re bored with the bland bubblegum tribe, but you still want something crisp and breezy that doesn’t take itself too seriously — listen to this wolf howl at the moon. 🐺
